Victorus aut Mortis!” — The Battle Cry of Deliverance

Victorus aut Mortis!” — The Battle Cry of Deliverance

on

The Raven Guard — the XIX Legion — are the smallest of the original Space Marine Legions, yet their impact on the battlefields of the Imperium is immeasurable. They are the masters of infiltration, the architects of guerrilla warfare, the silent death that descends from above. Where other Legions rely on brute force and armoured might, the Raven Guard depend on speed, stealth, and precision.

At the onset of every battle, the Raven Guard deploy swathes of Scouts to gather intelligence across the front lines. Thereafter, command cadres armed with jump packs and Lightning Claws lead massed Assault Squads as vanguard shock forces, striking the foe with blinding speed. Simultaneously, Tactical Squads are air-dropped via Drop Pods or deployed by Thunderhawk Gunships into enemy weak points marked by forward Scout detachments. Renowned throughout the Imperial Legions as the paragons of behind-enemy-lines operations, the Raven Guard go to great lengths to avoid pitched head-on combat with hostile formations.

After the Horus Heresy, the Raven Guard‘s numbers were drastically reduced. The survivors, facing overwhelming odds, evolved into masters of guerrilla warfare — a tradition that endures to this day. They have shed most of their armoured assets and heavy support, relying instead on infantry that appear from nowhere and vanish just as quickly, striking fear into the hearts of their enemies.

The Black Wings of Deliverance Necklace Pendant is a tribute to that legacy — a wearable symbol of the XIX Legion’s unyielding spirit.

🐦⬛ Design — A Trinity of Shadow, Speed, and Death

The Raven Skull — The Watcher in Shadow

At the centre of the pendant sits a finely detailed raven skull — the visual embodiment of the Raven Guard‘s identity. It is not merely a symbol of death, but of patient observation. Like a scout on the battlefield, the raven watches from the shadows, studying its prey, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The skull‘s hollow eye sockets seem to follow you — a reminder that the Raven Guard are always watching.

The Black Wings — The Descent of Death

Flanking the skull on either side are spread, swept-back wings — the “Black Wings” of Deliverance. These wings are a direct reference to the jump packs that define Raven Guard shock tactics. In battle, the Raven Guard descend from above, their jump packs roaring as they fall upon the enemy with devastating force. The wings also evoke the gothic, brooding aesthetic of the Legion — dark, elegant, and utterly lethal.

The Deadly Talon — The Lightning Claw

Hanging from one side of the pendant is a sharp, curved talon — a detail that elevates the design from merely symbolic to genuinely menacing. This claw is a tribute to the Lightning Claws wielded by Raven Guard assault squads — weapons that tear through armour and flesh with equal ease. In the context of the pendant, the talon represents the killing blow: the moment when shadow becomes steel, and the enemy realises it is already dead.

The Gothic Aesthetic

The entire design rejects the soft, rounded forms of conventional jewellery. Instead, it embraces sharp angles, dark silhouettes, and religious-like solemnity. The combination of skull, wings, and claw creates a piece that feels ancient, ritualistic, and deeply connected to the grim darkness of the 41st Millennium. It is a piece that could have been worn by a Raven Guard Chaplain or a veteran of the Drop Site Massacre.
