The School of the Wolf, to which the undisputed protagonist of The Witcher 3 belongs, can be considered the most direct successor of the Witcher Order. After many groups of witchers left the Order, the pioneers of the Wolf School remained in Castle Morgraig for a long time before eventually departing. They journeyed west into Kaedwen, chose the wolf as their emblem, and established their own school.
The School has always adhered strictly to a path of neutrality. Even so, they were inevitably drawn into the widespread prejudice against witchers. Rather than attempting to quell rumors, they chose to prove themselves through their actions. However, the mob gave them no such chance. They stormed Kaer Morhen, slaughtering dozens of witchers, apprentices, and mages within its walls. In the aftermath, Kaer Morhen was reduced to ruins, and the School of the Wolf—like other witcher groups—was left teetering on the brink of extinction.
